After #metoo and #stopasianhate : Toward a Belgian Asian Feminism – Sound Mapping by Mélanie Cao

Talk
Matrimony Season 2021/22
15:00-16:45 Tour à Plomb (cultural room)

In a post #metoo and #stopasianhate context, what does an asiofeminist look reveal about the public space around us? Based on sound recordings and interviews she conducted with Asian women and gender minorities, Melanie Cao proposes to develop some themes of a Belgian asiofeminism still in the making and to question the place of women and non-binary people of Asian origin in Belgium. What does it mean to be Asian in the public space? In which places are we represented or invisibilized, from which spaces do we feel excluded?

Melanie Cao is the creator of the project Asiofeminism Now! (@asiofeminism_now) and is developing research through publications and podcasts at the intersection of gender and race to make minority voices visible.
