Guided tour of Cauchie House with Guide and Anthropologist Alice Graas
14:00-15:00
Cauchie House
This guided tour of the Cauchie House is centered around Lina Cauchie, born Caroline Voet, a talented painter. She was one of the first women to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. The Cauchie House is not only Paul’s work, it is really their common work, as suggested by the inscription on the façade “Par nous, pour nous” [by us, for us]. For this visit, Alice Graas will emphasize Lina’s work as well as the place of women artists in the era of Art Nouveau.
Passionate about Art Nouveau for many years, Alice Graas has also been a guide at Maison Cauchie since 2016 and at Arkadia since 2020. Her research in anthropology has led her to work on feminist themes. In this context, she happily links these two themes as it allows her to explore a lesser known aspect of Art Nouveau by highlighting the place of women in history and art history, and offers her the opportunity to share her knowledge with the public.
