This guided walk in the public urban space is on a quest to find the witches of yesterday and today. In the 14th century, as humanity was about to move on from the “dark” Middle Ages onto a more modern Era and the Renaissance, women, for their part, were thrown into darkness–or, to be more accurate, into fire, tied to a stake. How were women’s skills and knowledge transformed into witchcraft? How did the living conditions of free women change? What female figures reveal other possible worlds? What does our public urban space tell us about that era… and about today’s witches?

Chiara Tomalino graduated from UCL in history of art with a thesis on the representation of women artists in modern art museums. Since 2018, she has been a guide-lecturer in Brussels and a project coordinator for Arkadia. She specializes in Street Art and contemporary art and is passionate about gender issues. She gladly joined the L’architecture qui dégenre asbl team as a tour guide in 2021.
