Tour at the Van Buuren Museum with art historian Virginie Mamet
Immerse yourself in the very special and intimate world of the Van Buuren house-museum, a jewel conceived with the aim of "total art". Its construction was undertaken between 1924 and 1928, at the initiative of Alice Van Buuren née Piette and David Van Buuren. The couple went to Paris in 1925 for the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. While there, they met artists, craftsmen and decorators, to whom they placed numerous orders. As unifying personalities, Alice and David Van Buuren are collectors, patrons and philanthropists. Particular attention will be paid to the figure of Alice Van Buuren and her role in the design of the house and gardens, as well as to the women artists (unfortunately few in number) who are involved in the collection.
Virginie Mamet is a graduated in art history from the ULB. She is attached to the Cultural Mediation Service of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, and works independently for various Brussels non-profit organizations and institutions. Her research focuses mainly on the field of textile art. Recently, she participated in the elaboration of several exhibitions and publications on the artist Tapta Wierusz Kowalski.
