Toward a Belgian Asian Feminism: Sound Mapping by Mélanie Cao

Talk
Matrimony Days 2021
15:00-16:30 Tour à Plomb (cultural room)

What can Asian Feminist reveal about the public space around us?  Based on sounds recorded in venues and interviews that she holds with women and minorities of Asian descent, Mélanie Cao elaborates on issues of a Belgian Asian Feminist that is still a work in progress and examines the place of women* and non-binary people of Asian descent in Belgium.  What does being an Asian woman* in the public space entail? Where are we represented or silenced, and which spaces can we potentially feel excluded from?   *the term “women” refers to anyone identifying as female.
