Who are the women artists of the Palace of the Nation ? Artistic guided tour of the Senate and the Chamber (FR)

Guided tour
Matrimony Season 2021/22
14:00-15:30 Palace of the Nation

This tour will highlight the works of art created by women artists at the Palace of the Nation, from the mid-19th century to the present day. In December 1921, when Marie Spaak-Janson, Belgium's first woman parliamentarian, became a senator, the number of works by women artists in the Senate and the Chamber could be counted on the fingers of (half) a hand. Since then, official portraits of the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber have been entrusted to women painters. Other artists, from a variety of disciplines, have created works of art that enhance the décor of the corridors and meeting rooms. If all these works have their own history, the women, often exceptional, who created them, have their own! We invite you to a triple discovery of a little known heritage, realized by women often forgotten today, in prestigious places.

Sophie Wittemans, art historian, curator of the heritage of the Palace of the Nation and the team of professional guides of the Senate and the Chamber offer you a tailor-made visit for the Matrimony Season 2021/22.
